Building Department
Responsibilities
The Roxbury Building Official enforces building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits making sure all work meets the State of Connecticut Building Code.

Digital plans may not be sufficient for all projects, hard copy plans may be required to be submitted to the office.
Instructions
Scheduling
- No inspections will be scheduled unless permit(s) have been issued
- 48 Hours' notice is required for all inspections performed after 1 pm.
- Stamped, approved plans must be on-site at the time of inspection
- A $25 re-inspection fee may be imposed at the discretion of the Building Official
List of Required Inspections
- The footing site was excavated, forms in place, and rebar (if required).
- Footing Drain and Waterproofing - Walls w/p with continuous membrane per code, drains in place with stone and fabric in place.
- Slab Pre-Pour - All concrete flatwork shall be inspected prior to the placement of concrete.
- Framing - The building shall be weather-tight and stairs installed. Approved framing plans must be on site or no inspection will be made.
- Rough Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical - All permits issued, all fire stopping and fire caulking completed. Pressure tests for all piping shall be witnessed and approved by the Building Inspector.
- Electric Service and Trench - Inspections are performed separately from "building rough inspections". A CRS# is required for electric service (new and upgraded).
- Insulation - Prior to sheetrock.
- Hearth/Smoke Shelf (Chamber) - Hearth Inspection shall be made with steel in place prior to placement of concrete.
- Final - Must be performed in order to issue a Certificate of Occupancy/Use. A "CO" shall be obtained prior to occupancy of a structure. At the time of final inspection
- All finished electricity shall be complete.
- All handrails and guardrails were installed.
- All health and safety requirements are in compliance.
