The Probate Court for the District of Roxbury is located downstairs in the Roxbury Town Hall. At this time there are 117 Probate Courts in the State of Connecticut, each of which is presided over by a Judge of Probate who is elected to office for a four-year term. Probate Courts have jurisdiction over the following matters: - probating of wills and the administration of decedent's estates
- administration of testamentary trusts
- administration of living trusts (limited jurisdiction)
- guardianship of the mentally retarded
- guardianship of the person of minor children
- guardianship of the estate of minor children
- termination of parental rights
- finalization of adoptions
- conservatorship of the person and/or estate of incapable adults
- granting name changes
- psychiatric commitment of children and adults
- drug and alcohol commitment of adults
- processing of passport applications.
