ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER The Animal Control Officer and Assistant Animal Control Officer are responsible for answering to resident complaints of activity regarding animals. For more information: 354-2138
BOOTH FREE SCHOOL The school contains grades from Kindergarten through grade 5. Goals include increasing parent involvement and use of local resources to enhance and enrich school programs. Teachers, volunteers, and an active P. T. O. along with the children are continuously learning and therefore communicating to develop a strong curriculum and promote appropriate behavior and appropriate interpersonal relations. BULKY WASTE AND RECYCLING The Town of Roxbury has a bulky waste site Transfer Station located on Lower County Road. To gain access to the Transfer Station you must obtain a public access sticker at the Selectmen's Office. The sticker allows you to bring specific bulky waste and recyclables to the Transfer Station. BURNING PERMITS Residents may obtain a burning permit at the Selectmen's Office. The permit is an application for permission to burn. For more information: Selectmen's Office, P. O. Box 203, 354-9938.

FIRE DEPARTMENT (VOLUNTEER) The Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department provides fire and rescue services for the town. Calls are responded to for various cases such as the following: automatic alarms, downed or burning power lines, structure including chimney fires, furnace fires, propane leakage, gasoline leakage from vehicles, accidents, transformer fires, and unknown smoke sources, etc. As always in the event of any emergency, PLEASE DIAL 911! HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL DAY The Town of Roxbury holds a Hazardous Waste Collection day once a year with the Town of Bridgewater, in Bridgewater. The collection is held in August or September. HEALTH OFFICER The local Health Officer enforces or assists in the enforcement of the Connecticut Public Health Code and the regulations that may be adapted by the Commissioner of Health Services. Duties include inspections at various stages of projects with regard to property, buildings, structures and site preparation, and the review of designs, maps, plans, and data that may be required before permit approval. He determines the validity of violations of the health code and follows the defined, legal procedures for compliance. HISTORICAL SOCIETY The Roxbury Historical Society is the guardian of Roxbury's history. The Historical Society Barn is located on South Street behind the Old Town Hall. For more information: Janice Steers, President, 355-1893.
INLAND WETLANDS ENFORCEMENT OFFICER The Inland Wetlands Enforcement Officer reviews, evaluates, and coordinates activities to ensure timely review and processing of applications. He also conducts on-site inspections of wetlands and affected properties and detects and reports violations to the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission. JUDGE OF PROBATE The Probate Court is part of the judicial branch of state government and is supported primarily by fees established by state statute. The Probate Court has expanded by state legislature to encompass a variety of matters including financial affairs, guardianships of mentally retarded persons, parental rights matters, adoptions, and guardianships and custody of minor children. MINOR MEMORIAL LIBRARY The Minor Memorial Library offers a collection of many books as well as video tapes, compact discs, periodicals and books on tape. Interesting craft and reading programs for children are provided. Every summer, The Friends of The Roxbury Library holds an annual book sale. POLICE DEPARTMENT A Resident Trooper program and a part-time Constable force supplement the 24-hour coverage of Roxbury by the Connecticut State Police. Constables are certified professionals who respond to complaints, patrol neighborhoods, perform house watches for absent residents, check doors and windows of all municipal buildings and businesses in town and conduct traffic control and enforcement on a regular basis. RECYCLING After obtaining a public access sticker for your vehicle at the Selectmen's Office, residents may bring items to the Transfer Station on Lower County Road. Items that are recycled include glass containers (all colors and types), food and beverage containers, metal containers, plastic containers with a #1 (PETE) or #2 (HDPE), newspapers, inserts, magazines, catalogs, and corrugated cardboard. REGISTRARS OF VOTERS The Registrars are responsible for keeping a list of all registered voters and registering residents to vote. ROAD REPAIR Residents may call the Selectmen's Office (354-9938) to report town roads in need of repair. Repairs needed on state owned roads (Rtes. 67, 199, 317) may be called into the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (D. O. T.) in New Milford. Route 67 from 199 south, call D.O.T.
