RENTER'S REBATE PROGRAM: Roxbury residents who are 65+ or disabled, and who are renters, can now file their applications for the State Renters’ Rebate Program from April 1st through October 31st. Income for 2012 may not have exceeded $33,500 for a single renter, or $40,900 for married renters. Proof of all income must be provided (SSA 1099 and 2012 income tax return if filed), along with proof of rent and utilities paid in 2012. The Soldiers’, Sailors’ and Marines’ Fund (SSMF) is an agency of the State of Connecticut established in 1919 to help wartime veterans in need and their families. Assistance is provided for temporary periods only and is limited in amount, frequency and duration. Purposes for which temporary assistance is available include: Weekly Assistance, assistance with rent or mortgage interest payments, assistance with medical expenses, assistance with emergent dental care, assistance with prescription medications, eye exams and eyeglasses, audiological evaluation and hearing aids, funeral expenses, and assistance with durable medical equipment. MEDICARE SAVINGS PROGRAM: The Medicare Savings Program in a State program designed to help Medicare beneficiaries meet their needs. At a minimum, MSP will cover the cost of your Medicare B premium which this year is $104.90 a month…that’s $1258.80 for the year! There are different tiers to the program which can provide additional benefits. To qualify, a single person’s gross monthly income may not exceed $2,308.88, and a couple’s gross income may not exceed $3,127.28. Two good things about this program are that your assets are not taken into consideration in the determination process, AND there is no estate recovery by the State of Connecticut! CONNECTICUT DENTAL HEALTH PARTNERSHIP: If you are receiving medical assistance through the CT Medicaid or HUSKY programs, you are also eligible to receive comprehensive DENTAL care. Unfortunately, you may be having great difficulty finding a dentist who will accept your insurance. The CONNECTICUT DENTAL HEALTH PARTNERSHIP can help you find a participating network dentist or dental specialist. They also can help with scheduling appointments and transportation. Call their Customer Service Reps @ 1-866-420-2924 M-F, 8:00AM to 5:00PM.
